Meditation is an ancient and excellent practice to connect mind, body and spirit, as it quiets the thinking mind and can alter one’s state of consciousness. It raises awareness and perceptive abilities to access information that exists just beyond the bounds of reason and logic. It helps align within one’s self. In addition to an intentional and deliberate meditation practice, a meditative state can be experienced in a variety of ways when one is fully present. That could be walking in a park; dancing or singing or playing music; being engrossed in a creative or athletic pursuit; or sitting or lying down in stillness, such as in yoga’s Shavasana pose or prayer or simply mindfully ‘being.’

Mindstream’s special editorial package on meditation features information on how to meditate, the benefits of meditation, and the science and history of meditation. Personal essays relate first-hand experiences of the impact of meditation (here’s how to share yours).

Mindstream is collaborating with Millions Meditating Alliance to make it easier to explore and practice meditation, and to share stories of the transformative and enlightening power of this mindfulness ritual.

My first episode of severe depression emerged when I was 14 years old. I remember being immobile, unable to think or interact. An overseas trip brought my first meditation experience. It would lead to a profound process.
